How to Make an Idea Come to Light
An idea is just an idea until it has been nurtured and massaged until it can grow.
Have you ever had an idea that came to you in a day dream and you thought would be the next million or billion dollar idea?
We all have them. It’s a matter of what you do with them that counts.
Often, ideas die at the first sign of adversity, others get watered for a while until they die or get picked up by someone who has the drive and resources to make it happen.
Look at Shark Tank. The people pitching their products have an idea that they pitch to the sharks who then think about the next step of the process that not a lot of people can get right.
The sharks have figured it out. The logistics, the connections, the money to make the ideas a “household name.”
It’s a whole freakin process.
You hear the advice, “you gotta roll up your sleeves and work long, hard hours and believe when nobody else does.”
It’s great advice and it’s true. There is a big element of working for no pay like a mad scientist to turn it into something that a consumer will pull out their credit card and give the deets to see what your product can do for them.
This is where many ideas die too.
They become something but there is not enough people that want to pay for it or there are not enough people who even know what the product is.
So then what happens?
The idea either dies or it’s worked on further. The idea creator realizes soon that not enough people want/need what they are offering and they pull the plug or they roll up their sleeves and they keep pushing.
How do you know when to let it go or to keep going?
I think there are many factors and it should be judged on a case to case basis.
You gotta know when to hold em and you gotta know when to fold em as the song goes.
Is the idea a fly by night idea? Are you passionate about it and do you really believe that it will help people? Is it just something that you thought would be fun to do and you don’t want to fight for it?
Be honest.
Like really be honest with yourself. You will come to that fork in the road with every idea and it will force you to dig deep or fold.
Not every idea should be pursued by you.
Choose wisely.
I think you really need to get to know yourself. What is your personality type? What truly brings you joy? Do you need to bring someone else on that has the characteristics to help move the idea forward?
